This week during our morning meeting, we focused on learning about solid shapes. I wanted the students to learn the names of the most common solid shapes as well be able to identify solid shapes within their environment and to know that solid shapes are 3D--not flat!
We focused on vocabulary such as describe and base/face (when talking about the shapes). The students worked with the geometric solids in the classroom and did picture sorts to classify objects by what solid shape they are. It was a lot of fun!
In the afternoons, during dismissal, we also began focusing on our sounds and phonemic awareness activities. We watched a few short videos/online activities about the sounds /s/ and /m/. We practiced these sounds with the sandpaper letters and also practiced sorting pictures and objects by their initial sound. Practice these sounds at home with your child, too!
Next week, we'll be focusing on some cultural/geography studies--learning about our world, the seven continents & more!!!
