As this week comes to a close, I wanted to share with you some highlights of the past few days and all the kids have been learning. We focused on pumpkins this week and our morning meetings introduced new information about pumpkins each day. On Monday, we came up with a list of adjectives to describe what a pumpkin looks like (the kindergarteners have been learning that making lists is one way to write so this was a great companion exercise). On Tuesday & Wednesday we learned about the parts of a pumpkin and cut one in half so we could view the insides. Thursday & Friday's focus was the life cycle of a pumpkin from seed to pumpkin. Check out the slideshow below to view our Morning Messages from the week: The kindergarteners have extended their pumpkin learning during our afternoon lessons. They drew & painted their own pumpkin and wrote their own describing words by sounding them out and writing the sounds they hear in each word. They also did a few parts of the pumpkin & life cycle of the pumpkin activities... They also completed their pin punch map of North America as part of our Social Studies research. Here are a few more photos from our week. Also check the slieshow on the main page for some new additions.

Well, we had a great first week back at school after Fall Break. The kids were all eager to be back and school and ready to learn lots of new lessons. Our morning meetings focused on fall---what happens in fall, what it looks like in fall, etc. Here are photos of our mornng messages from this past week : As you can see, we use our morning message each day not only to review the calendar and explore our current theme, but also to work on critical literacy skills. Students learn about the conventions of writing such as using punctuation and where to put a capital letter. They also explore concepts of print such as tracking words from left to right and top to bottom and putting spaces in between words. It is amazing all of the important standards & skills that can be covered in this quick, simple activity! There are also lots of new practical life activities on the shelves using materals related to fall such as miniature pumpkins, acorns, leaves, etc. Students are painting pumpkins with watercolor paint and punching out leaf shapes which are all great fine motor strengthening activities. Here are a few photos of some students in action: I will be back later this week with more photos of fall-related activities. I hope you enjoy this peek into our classroom!
I hope everyone enjoyed their Fail Break and had a chance to spend time with family & friends. Sorry I didn't get anything posted here while we were on break--I was actually enjoying our first family vacation! My husband, girls & I packed up the car and headed to Inlet Beach, Florida for the break. It was a great trip and a wonderful chance to catch up with each other as a family. I hated to leave the beach but I have to say I was so excited to see all of your children's faces when they came in on Monday morning. Their hugs are always much appreciated! I will be back later this week with some photos of the new work we are doing. We are really jumping into fall around here! The kids are doing practical life activities using fall objects as well as writing fall words. Come back for more updates soon! I'll leave you with a happy little photo to remind you to enjoy the little moments in life!
Just a reminder....there is no school tomorrow (10/5) for a teacher planning day and we are out of school next week (10/8-10/12) for Intersession & Fall Break. Enjoy your time off with your children! I will be back here sometime soon posting about what we recently finished up in the classroom this week as we studied the four seasons. Have a great Fall break!
